Capriccio, for Flute, Violin and Piano
World Premiere Recording in Bonn May 2017 by the
Oakmount Trio: Flute – Gary Woolf, Violin – Matthias
Reuland, Piano – Sebastian Kurz.
The Capriccio for flute, violin and piano was written in October and November 2016.
Its duration is about 9/10 minutes approx.
It is fast and wild with a slower, more thoughtful middle section, ending with the hurricane from the beginning. The central Minuet is dedicated to a wonderful elderly lady student, Doris Green (same surname as myself but no relation), to whom I taught piano/keyboard for many years. She was a beautiful person and we became great pals. She is sadly no longer with us but I always remember her fondly in the Capriccio’s Minuet.
The music is completely tonal and melodic, but I feel its main feature is the intense rhythmic drive throughout the fast outer sections, which hopefully will give much adrenaline and excitement to both players and listeners.
